Music Technology encourages interaction between musical creation, technology and research. The pedagogical goal of the Music Technology program is to provide a unique vehicle for students to unleash their creative potential. In addition, to provide students with an environment where creative and innovative thinking through technology is encouraged. Training includes lessons in Electronic Music performance and history, Film History, The History of Sound in Film, Multi-Media Applications and Advanced Audio and Video Editing. This training helps prepare students for a wide range of collegiate opportunities in music technology, media industries, and music education.

Course Description: Prerequisite-Music Technology 1
This intermediate course is open to students who have successfully taken Music Technology I. Students will continue their exploration of the latest computer software and hardware along with analog and digital recording. Expertise gained in the Music Technology 1 class will give students the opportunity to maximize their creativity with a host of cross-curricular multi-media projects. These include the integration of Art, History, Creative Writing, Video and Music production. Students will leave this course with a professional quality digital portfolio of all the music technology based projects they have created.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the history of film music, identify significant film composers and films, and understand the compositional style differences between the eras of filmmaking.
  • Understand the history of electronic music and have the opportunity to explore different instruments through organized jam sessions
  • Create and produce a podcast which will expose depth of knowledge regarding specific eras of film, film scoring and films connection with the culture of the time.
  • Compose a musical theme for the podcast; include appropriate sound effects and music where appropriate.
  • Identify different mediums that have utilized music an integral part of the overall product.
  • Adapt and apply audio editing skills to video editing software.
  • Become proficient with technical skills and editing programs, which will allow for students creative potential to be reached.
  • Effectively research a subject for a multimedia documentary and provide an outline and final narrative based on findings.

Student Responsibilities:
  1. 1. To be punctual and attend all scheduled classes. The Bernards High School Attendance Policy requires students to attend class every time it is scheduled, unless the student is excused by an administrator. A student will not be granted credit in a course whenever any of the following attendance limits are exceeded in the course (note that tardies to class are equal to .5 absences from that course):
